Newaukum Valley Golf Course — Collective Review

Summary

Reviews for Newaukum Valley Golf Course in Chehalis, Washington, are largely positive across major golf review platforms, earning an average rating around 4.0 out of 5 stars. Golfers frequently praise the course for its approachable, unpretentious atmosphere, describing it as a welcoming and laid-back venue where players of all skill levels—especially beginners, high handicappers, and seniors—can feel comfortable. The facility features three distinct nine-hole layouts (South, East, and West), which reviewers highlight for providing good variety, scenic views, and strategic hazards like water and bunkers without feeling overly penalizing. Course conditions receive mostly favorable remarks, with particular praise directed at the greens, which many golfers describe as smooth, true, and consistently well-maintained. However, drainage is a recurring critique. During the Pacific Northwest's rainy season and shoulder months, lower-lying sections of fairways can become soggy or muddy, occasionally prompting confusing cart restrictions and roped-off sections. In drier or peak months, players generally find fairways in respectable shape, though some note inconsistent tee boxes and occasional bare dirt patches. Reviewers consistently rate Newaukum Valley as a solid value, highlighting affordable green fees and wallet-friendly prices at the clubhouse for drinks and snacks, including hot dogs and beer. Staff friendliness is frequently cited as a highlight, with clubhouse personnel earning positive remarks for creating an inviting environment. While Yelp features a small sample size of mixed feedback, broader feedback on GolfPass and 18Birdies reflects an overwhelmingly recommended experience for everyday public golf in Lewis County.
